History of Reiki

Reiki originated in Japan in the 1920s. Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered a way of channeling healing energy. Dr. Usui was a learned scholar who thought in a Christian seminary in Japan. A student had asked him if he believed in Jesus' ability to heal. Dr. Usui then dedicated the rest of his life to finding out hour how Jesus and the Buddha had been able to heal. At the end of a 21-day fast, he was struck by a great light and saw sacred symbols. He received spiritual empowerment and achieved enlightenment. Despite being weak, he rushed down the mountain from his fast and injured his foot. He bent down to hold it, the bleeding stopped and the pain went away.

He then proceeded to heal many other people. He passed his teachings on to Dr. Chujiro Hayashi who opened a Reiki clinic that trained two or more practitioners. One was Mrs. Hawayo Takata who then trained many more from her clinic in Hawaii. She eventually trained 22 Masters. From those 22, it spread throughout the world.
